Learning to swim at the YMCA is more than just stroke development. Trained, certified, professional staff gives each class participant personal attention to ensure quality and safety. YMCA aquatic programs are available from 6 months to adult age levels.
Classes are taught in small groups with others of their own skill level. Each participant is assessed to assure they are in the correct level. Classes are fun-filled and full of energy! Each class emphasized water safety as an important element of the program. The YMCA Core Values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility are incorporated into all of our classes.
Whether you're a beginning swimmer or have been swimming for awhile, but would like to improve your technique, the YMCA Aquatics Program is for you.

Personal Assessment & Training Program
Receive a fitness assessment in the water, and then enter a program to meet your own goals, needs, and schedule. Call Glenda VanStratton at 345-9622 x127.

Prepare yourself for the big race! This program is designed for the intermediate level swimmer who wishes to improve their swimming skills and wants to prepare for an open water swim. The program emphasizes the freestyle swim stroke.

This class features a mix of weight resistance training on land combined, with cardio and athletic conditioning in the water. Participants meet at the pool for 30 minutes of instruction on land, and 45 minutes in the water.

Healthy Baby Healthy Start Water Exercise Classes
These are gentle water exercises for at-risk, expectant mothers to help facilitate healthy birth outcomes. Classes meet twice a week for 45 minutes of water exercise. One class includes 30 minute of additional education. Women must wear appropriate water attire. A doctor's permission slip is required. In partnership with Kalamazoo County Community Health.

Pre & Post Natal Aqua Fit
For new mothers and mothers-to-be; come enjoy the weightless feeling the water provides you while getting a workout with toning and light cardio to keep your body healthy. A doctor's permission slip is required.

Strengthen and tone, along with improving balance, coordination, and flexibility, in a class designed to increase your cardio and respiratory systems. Taught in the large pool.

High intensity.
Challenge your core body strength; improving your balance, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance. This class includes the use of Hydrofit equipment.
Note: All participants must be comfortable in all depths of the pool and it is highly recommended to take one-45 minute water fitness orientation before taking your first class if you have not taken any previous water fitness classes.

A high intensity water class, in the deep end of the pool, to challenge your core body strength, improve balance, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance. The class includes the usage of Hydrofit equipment.

Water Fitness Orientation
This one time, 45-minute, water orientation and personal goal setting session is highly recommended for anyone who has not taken a high-level water fitness class previously. You will be orientated on all basic water fitness moves, use of water exercise equipment, and safety guidelines. Our instructors will help you choose the best class.

Strengthen, tone, increase flexibility, and improve your cardiovascular fitness while walking or jogging in the water. This exercise helps you avoid wear and tear on your joints

Friday Night is family night at the Y for our members. Bring your family on Fridays beginning at 6:30p and enjoy time together during Family Swim and Family Gym. There’ll be occasional special activities for families as well. See Member Services for more information. Additional family swim times are available during the week.
