The YMCA's lifeguard certification course includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and First Aid certifications. All participants must meet the minimum age required* as of the first day of class and swim 500 yards. Class dates/schedules are arranged by the aquatic department and are offered at the Maple and Portage branches.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course

    Instructors: Jennifer Nardi and Kyle Lester

    Must attend every class.
    Prerequisites: Swim 500 yards continuous using sidestroke, elementary sidestroke, front crawl and breaststroke. Ability to swim 25 yards then dive down 9 feet and retrieve a 10 lb. brick and swim it back.
