Shrimp - Kippers - Inia - Perch: Ages 6-36 months

A fun water adjustment class for parent-child teams to socialize and have fun together. Instructors will work with you to teach your child basic water skills and safety through songs, games and repetition.

Eel: Ages 3-5

Prerequisite: completion of Pike
Intermediate level of swim and safety instruction. Child must be able to swim horizontally with a small cube.

Gym & Swim: Ages 3-5

Children will have 1/2 hour of gym activity in assigned room before being escorted to the pool for 1/2 hour of swim lesson. Pike/Eel swim level.

Beginning swim and safety skills are creatively taught in a caring and safe environment without the parent.

Pike & Parent: Ages 2 1/2-4

Designed for the student who has completed the Inia/Perch class or is ready for Pike level skills but prefers to participate with their parent. The instructor will work with the parent/child team in the water to prepare the child for the Pike level class.

Ray - Starfish: Ages 3-5

Prerequisite: completion of Eel.
Skills in rotary breathing, stroke development and floating are taught in this advanced 45 minute class for preschoolers.

Tennis-N-Swim: Ages 3-5

Tennis class for 30 minutes then off to the pool for 30 minutes of water fun. Parents are responsible for land to pool transition. We have racquets to borrow.

Flying Fish - Shark: Ages 6-12

Prerequisite: completion of Minnow • Fish
Advanced levels take children through mastery of breast stroke and butterfly. Children work on endurance, fitness, and pre-swim team skills. Safety component includes intro to lifesaving.

Guppy: Ages 6-12

Prerequisite: completion of Polliwog
Your child continues to build and improve the skills he/she learned in the Polliwog level. They will be taken through the mastery of front crawl, importance of proper body alignment, along with introduction to the back crawl.

Minnow - Fish: Ages 6-12

Prerequisite: completion of Guppy
In these two intermediate levels your child’s endurance will increase, so he/she can complete backstroke skills plus be taught skills for the breast stroke.

Polliwog: Ages 6-12

The first level of the YMCA program helps your child with beginning skills including water adjustment, floating, basic water safety and paddling with floatation devices.

Private Lessons: Youth

It’s not too late to learn how to swim, overcome your fears, and/or improve your swimming skills. Whether you need to learn basic swimming skills and/or improve your swimming technique, this program is for you!

Water-Polo Training & Conditioning: Ages 13+

Prerequisite: comfortable swimming and treading in deep water
For the beginner to master level water polo player. Improve your conditioning and knowledge base of the sport from rules and plays, to ball handling and drills. Great if you're training during the off-season or just want to add a challenge to your workout.

YMCA Swim Team:

Prerequisite: Completion of Minnow Level and/or ability to swim two lengths perfected front and back crawl.

Babysitting Training Course: Ages 11-15

Participants will learn leadership skills, safety and first aid, basic care skills, playing safe and interviewing skills. This course is an American Red Cross course, and certificates will be given for those who meet all the requirements of the class. Please bring a sack lunch/snack. 9a-5p

CPR for the Healthcare Provider:

This program includes one and two person CPR. Bag, valve and mask; AED and choking are also taught in this class. For lifeguards, medical professionals, instructors, etc. Classes are taught at the Maple Branch. Dates: 6/23, 7/28, 8/25

HeartSaver CPR/AED:

Adult/Child, Infant CPR and choking are included in this class for the lay person. Meets requirements for Michigan Day Care licensing. Classes are taught at the Maple Branch.

HeartSaver First Aid:

Basic first aid for Adults including environmental emergencies. Class teaches managing illness and injuries in the first few minutes prior to the arrival of professional help. Classes are taught at the Maple Branch. Dates: 6/9, 7/14, 8/11

Lifeguarding: Ages 15+

All participants must meet the minimum age required* as of the first day of class and swim 500 yards. The course includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and First Aid certifications.
