The YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo kicks off its PUSH FOR THE POOL campaign as that last component of the BUILDING FOR GENERATIONS Capital Improvement Projects.
To date, the Building for Generations Campaign has raised over $4.5 million from local foundations, grants, businesses, and individuals for major improvements at both the Portage and Maple Ys.
"We are very close to our goal," says CEO Steve Springsdorf, "And now we are turning to the Greater Kalamazoo community to support the last leg of our fundraiser, which is for the new pool."
The PUSH FOR THE POOL fundraiser will support a new pool at the Maple Y, which replaces a former, small, warm-water pool.
The new pool will be fully accessible and will feature:
- a dedicated splash area for toddlers,
- an area for preschool swim instruction that converts into a walk-against-the-area for adults,
- and an open water area for swim classes, open swims, exercise programs, and more.
"It will be a one-of-a-kind in our community, a real asset that will benefit thousands over the coming decades. In addition, we will be renovating the full access locker room that serves the pools.
"Whether you are a pool user or not, chances are someone you know has benefited from a Y aquatic program. By helping build a new pool, you are helping the Y to be stronger, which results in greater service to the community," Steve said.

No gift is too small. Stretch gifts over $300 can be spread over a three year pledge period.
