NEW YOUTH WRISTBAND POLICY GOES INTO EFFECT 12/9/2019
The YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo at Maple and Portage will be enforcing a new youth pool policy in order to best manage young inexperienced swimmers in deep water.
In order for youth 14 and under to have access to the deep end at any of the Y pools, they must wear a wrist band that signals to the lifeguard on duty that they have passed a required swim test.
- Youth 14 and under can request to be tested by the lifeguard on duty, per his/her availability, depending on the volume of swimmers in the pool. If the youth passes the swim test, the lifeguard will issue a wristband. It will be the youth's responsibility to show the wristband (while still on their wrist) to a staff person at the front desk so their clearance to swim in the deep end can be captured on their computer profile.
- Youth who have passed this swim test will need to get their wristbands at the check-in desk each day they plan to swim in the deep end.
- Youth 14 or under without a wristband will not be allowed to enter into the deep ends of any of our three pools.
This policy will go into effect Monday, December 9.
