Thank you to all who are and have been a part of the YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo family.
We are very excited about the work we are doing to continue to make the Y a place for ALL. Following are a few updates and highlights of this past year.
In 2019, we have focused on the issue of health equity in our community, and how the neighborhood or zip code in which one resides can make a real difference in their health and wellness even their life expectancy. Right here in greater Kalamazoo, residents who live only a few miles apart may face very different prospects for health and wellness outcomes during their lifetime. Individuals' abilities to access services and resources like healthy food, quality education, and healthcare can vary vastly even within one community -- and that's why the Y works to ensure all people can thrive, no matter who you are or where you're from.
To that end, this year we have awarded more than $350,000 in financial assistance in 2019 -- an increase of almost $100,000 from just last year -- to make sure no one is turned away from the YMCA based on their ability to pay. More than 600 individuals and businesses have donated to the YMCA in order to make this possible.
Our newly expanded and renovated facilities, with projects completed over the past two years through the Building For Generations campaign, continue to be utilized to the fullest by individuals, families, and groups from across our community. As always, our primary focus areas continue to be:
- Youth Development: Nurturing the potential of every child and teen by supporting their unique journey through holistic programming.
- Healthy Living: Improving our community's health and well-being by providing programs and activities that promote wellness, reduce risk for disease, and help others reclaim their health.
- Social Responsibility: We know that when we work together, we move individuals, families, and communities forward. The Y responds to society's most pressing needs by developing innovative, community-based solutions to help those in need to reach their full potential.
As you may be aware, we have made many improvements to this YMCA experience, and in 2017, we rolled back our membership fees significantly to make sure we are accessible to all in our community. As we enter the new year, there will be a slight increase in membership fees across most categories. This will help us keep pace with the rising costs of delivering quality programs and operating our updated and renovated facilities. Our commitment to keep the YMCA affordable remains a high priority as we balance our mission with responsibly stewarding our organization. Following will be the membership rates effective January 1, 2020.
There will be no change to fees for Full-Service locker rooms in 2020.
Please notice that most of the 2020 membership rates are still considerably lower than the rates from five years ago, as we remain committed to keeping the Y accessible to all in our community. If this increase creates a hardship for anyone, we invite them to investigate whether they qualify for Financial Assistance and ask that they check with Member Services for more information.
Also, for those who pay monthly dues by automatic bank draft or credit/debit card payment, please note the following update to our redraft policy:
In the case of an ACH transaction being rejected for Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) the YMCA may at its discretion, attempt to process the charge again through a re-draft within 14 days. No additional charges will be assessed for a successful re-draft within 14 days; however, if the re-draft is unsuccessful you may be subject to further follow-up collection efforts with an additional processing fee of $10. This is separate from any charges levied by your financial institution. If you choose to opt out of the re-draft process (by contacting the YMCA attn.: Member Services in writing by no later than 12/31/19) and wish to be contacted directly for collection following any NSF transaction, the processing fee of $10 will apply and your membership account may be suspended until collection efforts are successful.
If you have any questions regarding these rates or policies, please contact Andrea Heidtman, Association Member Services Director, at 269-345-9622 or email@example.com.
Please remember that your membership here gives you membership nationwide. You're not just a member, you are part of a national movement -- a cause that nurtures the potential of kids, improves health and well-being of others and supports our neighbors in this community. Thank you for choosing the Y. We look forward to helping you build a healthy spirit, mind, and body at the YMCA in 2020.
