Big things are on the horizon for the YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo! At the end of 2024, our Board of Directors took a bold step forward, unanimously approving an ambitious capital campaign to raise over $6.5 million for critical renovations at the Portage YMCA.
These upgrades will enhance accessibility, expand wellness spaces, and create an even more welcoming environment for all members of our community.
The project will focus on key improvements, including a brand-new childcare space, larger and more modern wellness areas, youth-focused spaces to support our out-of-school time programs, and improved accessibility throughout the facility. Natural light and updated designs will create a fresh, vibrant atmosphere, aligning with our commitment to promoting health and well-being for all.
This initiative is not just about bricks and mortar—it’s about people. The renovations will directly support the thousands of members, families, and children who rely on the Y for community, wellness, and growth. As an organization, we take pride in being a place where individuals of all ages and backgrounds can thrive, and this project ensures we continue to meet the evolving needs of those we serve.
