While KPS is utilizing remote learning for the 2020-21 School Year, our normal before and after school programs are suspended.
Registration for 2021-22 School Year Prime Time will open online Monday, July 13th.
Prime Time is before- and after-school care for students in grades K-5, serving Kalmazoo Public Schools (KPS) families at five KPS elementary schools and the Maple YMCA. Prime Time engages kids in physically active, learning, and imaginative activities that encourage exploration of who they are and what they can achieve. All of our programs are inclusive and offer a combination of free-choice and structured age-appropriate activities.
Our program includes the CATCH curriculum, which is aimed at engaging children in intentional physical activity and nutritional education. We also offer healthy afternoon snacks, academic support, STEM, arts and crafts, and more! We promote the Y's four core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, and incorporate the CHAMPS program at all of our sites.
CHAMPS stands for:
- A-always respectful
- M-making responsible choices
- P-positive attitude
- S-safety first
All of our programs are licensed by the State of Michigan and are run by qualified youth development staff.
We provide before and after school programming at the following Kalamazoo Public Schools elementary schools.
- King-Westwood Elementary
- Milwood Elementary
- Parkwood-Upjohn Elementary
- Prairie Ridge Elementary
- Winchell Elementary
We also have a location at the Maple YMCA.
Students from several other KPS elementary schools can be picked up and dropped off at our main locations through KPS transportation.
- Greenwood Elementary to and from Milwood Elementary
- Arcadia Elementary to and from King-Westwood Elementary
- Indian Prairie Elementary to and from King-Westwood Elementary
- Woods Lake Elementary to and from Maple YMCA
- El Sol Elementary to and from Maple YMCA

The YMCA is a nonprofit community organization dedicated to enriching the lives of all. We strive to make membership and programs available to everyone. For families who may be experiencing financial hardship, please enroll your child and then inquire about our financial assistance program.
School Breaks and Snow Days
On scheduled KPS days off and snow days*, full-day care is offered at the Maple YMCA. Participation is limited to children currently enrolled in Prime Time.
*If the weather is severe enough the Y itself may close or open late. In those situations, snow day camp will not be offered.
