The YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo is absolutely thrilled to announce the arrival of TWO brand-new Community Blood Pressure Hubs – a fantastic initiative by the American Heart Association through their Healthy Heart Initiative! And we owe a massive thank you to Ascension Borgess Hospital for sponsoring and fully funding these vital units, demonstrating their incredible commitment to our well-being.
Y members can now find these easy-to-use, self-serve blood pressure check units conveniently located at:
- Maple Y (in the main lobby at the Welcome Center)
- Portage Y (main floor, at the Aquatics wing)
This is such a game-changer because regular blood pressure monitoring is one of the most important things you can do for your health! High blood pressure (hypertension) often shows no symptoms, earning it the nickname "the silent killer." Left unchecked, it can lead to serious health problems like heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, and more.
By making it simple and accessible to check our blood pressure regularly, these Community Blood Pressure Hubs will empower members to take proactive steps in managing health and catching potential issues early. This is about prevention, education, and building a healthier community!
Members can take advantage of this incredible resource. Stop by the Maple or Portage Y and give the Community Blood Pressure Hub a try! Share this post to spread the word and help us build a healthier, happier community, one blood pressure check at a time!
“At the YMCA, we're dedicated to empowering our members to lead healthy, fulfilling lives," said Rebecca Lillie, Association Health and Wellness Director of the YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo. "We're incredibly thankful to Ascension Borgess Hospital for their crucial funding and to the American Heart Association for their partnership in bringing these vital blood pressure hubs to our Maple and Portage Ys. This initiative provides a convenient, accessible tool for our members to proactively monitor their heart health, reinforcing our commitment to their overall well-being. This project is a testament to what we can achieve when organizations with shared goals come together, and we're excited about the potential for continued collaboration to support the health of our members and the broader community."
