The Y at Maple will host the League of Women Voters, Friday, September 20 at Maple from 3pm - 5pm.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization working to protect and expand voting rights and ensure everyone is represented in our democracy. The LWV empowers voters and defend democracy through advocacy, education, and litigation, at the local, state, and national levels. Representatives will be present to provide voting resources, including information on locations, registration, and elections.
YOUR VOICE MATTERS: At the YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo, we believe in the power of community and the importance of every voice being heard.
Unfortunately, millions of Americans miss their chance to vote because of easily avoidable obstacles—they miss a registration deadline, don’t update their registration after moving, or simply aren’t sure how to get started. A 2020 study found that 42% of unregistered young voters (ages 18–24) didn’t know how to register, forgot, or felt too busy. The Y is dedicated to changing that by making it easier for everyone to take the first step toward being registered.
We encourage the community members to stop by to pick up information or voter registration forms during this visit from the LWV. Please note that the 2024 Election Voter Candidate Guide will not be available during the visit on 9/20, however, the Y at both Maple and Portage will have the guides available at a later date.
